REAR EXTENSION, 3D mODELLING

HOUSE REBUILD WITH REAR EXTENSION IN NORTH YORKSHIRE, UK

A detached property in North Yorkshire, UK, where the client wanted to rebuild the entire house after a complete demolition and also add a single storey rear extension. My role was to provide a new 3D model, and generate a fresh set of existing and proposed drawings while making the necessary changes the client wanted.

TL:DR

The client needed a fresh, well-coordinated set of architectural drawings and 3D visuals after previous designers failed to fully address a detailed list of requested changes. Using existing proposals as a reference, I produced a complete planning-ready drawing package and 3D model for a detached home in North Yorkshire, carefully incorporating layout revisions, window changes, and material adjustments through close coordination with the client.

Project Overview

The client approached me after working with several designers on the same project. While an overall design direction had already been established, the client was dissatisfied with how previous professionals had responded to a detailed list of requested changes.

As a result, the client sought my assistance to produce a new and cohesive set of architectural drawings and 3D visuals for the house rebuild and rear extension suitable for a planning application, while carefully incorporating their specific design amendments. The aim was not to develop a new concept from scratch, but to accurately translate the client’s requirements into clear, coordinated architectural documentation.

Existing Site & Constraints

The property is a detached dwelling located within a residential neighbourhood in North Yorkshire, UK. The house includes an existing rear conservatory and benefits from a large, predominantly flat rear garden. A detached garage is also located within the site.

From a physical standpoint, the site presented minimal constraints, allowing the focus of the project to remain on refining the design rather than resolving complex site conditions.

Incorporating Client Feedback

Client feedback was incorporated through ongoing coordination via email, with regular updates provided on the progress of the project. I shared interim drawings and visuals to demonstrate how the design was developing, allowing design issues to be identified early and resolved collaboratively in line with the client’s requirements.

Client Brief

My role on this project was focused on the preparation of a fresh set of architectural drawings, using previous work as reference material where appropriate. In addition, I was tasked with creating a 3D model of the proposal to support the drawings and help clearly communicate the design intent.

The client provided a detailed list of required changes, which included repositioning and resizing windows, modifying the internal layout, and making minor adjustments to external material finishes. I prepared a full drawing package comprising a scaled site location plan, block plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, and a series of 3D views generated from the model. Close coordination with the client was essential to ensure that all requested changes were accurately reflected across both the drawings and the 3D visuals.

Design & Planning

I began by recreating the existing layout based on the information and references supplied by the client, producing both 2D drawings and an existing-condition 3D model. Once this baseline was established, I developed the proposed drawings with the rear extension and corresponding 3D model in parallel. Throughout this stage, I coordinated closely with the client via email to review progress and confirm design changes.

Although the project was intended for a planning application, my involvement did not extend to planning strategy or liaison with the local authority. My role remained strictly focused on architectural documentation and visual coordination in line with the client’s instructions.

Final Outcome

The project concluded with the completion and delivery of a comprehensive set of existing and proposed drawings for the rear extension, including scaled location and block plans, coordinated plans, elevations and sections, as well as 3D models and rendered views. These materials were supplied to the client for use in their planning application.
