Residential Extensions

DF Architecture Works provides architectural design and planning services to residential clients across the UK.

Residential Architectural Design Services

Architecture doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does have to be done right.
At DF Architecture Works, I offer architectural design and planning services with a straightforward goal: to help homeowners and developers bring their residential projects to life, without the confusion and stress that can so often come with the process. Whether you’re thinking about extending your home, converting your loft, or taking on a larger development, I’m here to guide you through it from the first sketch to the final submission.

A Personal Approach to Every Project
I work as a sole practitioner, which means when you get in touch with DF Architecture Works, you’re speaking directly with me. Not being passed around between departments or handed off to a junior designer partway through. Every project gets my full attention, from the initial consultation right through to the planning application stage and beyond.
I find that this one-to-one way of working makes a real difference. It means I get to properly understand what you’re trying to achieve, what matters most to you, and what constraints we’re working within, whether that’s budget, site conditions, or the specific requirements of your local planning authority. Good design starts with good listening, and I take that seriously.

Working Across Residential Projects
The bulk of my work sits within the residential sector. I work with homeowners looking to make the most of their existing properties, including rear and side extensions, kitchen expansions, loft conversions, outbuildings, and more, as well as developers working on new builds and multi-unit schemes.
Planning permission can feel like a minefield if you haven’t been through it before. Permitted development rules, pre-application advice, design and access statements, drawing packages, there’s a lot to navigate. Part of what I do is take that weight off your shoulders, making sure your application is put together properly and gives itself the best possible chance of approval.
I work with clients across the UK, and I’m familiar with the varying expectations of different local planning authorities, something that genuinely matters when it comes to preparing an application that holds up under scrutiny.

Honest, Practical, and Straightforward
I don’t believe in overcomplicating things or dressing up the process with unnecessary jargon. If something is going to be tricky, I’ll tell you upfront. If your plans need rethinking before they go anywhere near a planning portal, I’ll say so and I’ll explain why. I’d far rather have an honest conversation early on than see a project run into avoidable problems down the line.
The same goes for design. I’m not here to impose a particular aesthetic onto your home or development. My job is to understand what you want and to translate that into something that works, practically, spatially, and in terms of planning policy.

Ready to Start?

Whether you have a clear vision or you’re not quite sure where to begin, I’m happy to have an initial conversation about your project, no commitment, no pressure. A lot of what I do starts with a simple chat about what someone is hoping to achieve and whether it’s realistically feasible. If you’re thinking about a residential project, big or small, feel free to get in touch. I’d be glad to hear what you have in mind.
