The Phantom Menace, (Concept)

This conceptual project showcases our architectural design capabilities and technical expertise. We selected a site in Hertfordshire to design a contemporary replacement dwelling, balancing contextual aesthetics with modern functionality.
Project Overview
We challenged ourselves to design a high-spec, three-bedroom home that balances everyday luxury with practical living. The self-imposed brief required: three bedrooms including a master suite, two bathrooms with high-end finishes, dedicated home office for modern remote work, functional utility room separate from living spaces, complete landscaping scheme integrated with the architecture, full technical compliance with current Building Regulations.
Our design establishes a strong dialogue between the building and its surroundings through meticulous material curation and alignment. The external landscaping features yellow paving stones paired with white brick soldier courses, creating crisp lines that flow across the site to dictate the building's structural footprint. This palette purposefully mirrors the buff brick and white render of neighboring properties, while a gravel border wrapping the perimeter eliminates the need for cut bricks to ensure precision detailing. The main building consists of a clean, white through-color render on the lower two floors, beautifully contrasted by warm, yellow vertical timber cladding on the top floor and the matching outbuilding. White powder-coated aluminum window frames align perfectly with this external landscaping grid to flood the interior with light. Inside, the home boasts standout features including a dramatic, full-height staircase spine, a light-filled living area enhanced by a classic bay window and strategic skylight, a private master ensuite, and elevated outdoor terraces extending directly from the bedrooms.
